Where It All Began
Before there were high school performances, songs, bars, venues and The Last First Tour, there was a semi-detached home on Gledhill Crescent in Hamilton, Ontario. It wasn't famous, and it wasn't extraordinary—but to me, it was where everything began. The driveway became a hockey rink. The garage roof became an outdoor stage. The neighbourhood became my first audience, my first adventures, and the backdrop to memories that still find their way into my songs today.

Every chapter of my life found its way into a song. From writing my first song in Grade 8 in 1982, through my years performing solo as Black Eye Suzie, recording with Dopamine Flood, returning to solo songwriting, and later reuniting with high school bandmates as The Hammersmiths, the music has never stopped evolving.

Before I ever stepped onto a stage or wrote a lyric, I was simply a kid growing up in Hamilton, Ontario. My world was made up of family, neighbourhood adventures, hockey games on the driveway, bicycles, schoolyards, television, music drifting from radios, and endless curiosity. Looking back now, I realize those ordinary days quietly became the foundation for everything I would eventually write about.
